Extremiti3D’s definitive and flexible lower limb sockets were developed through years of work with universities and the VA. The goal was to create a cost-effective socket which would pass the stringent standards for lower limb prostheses components, ISO 10328.

Extremiti3D’s process delivers a socket which has been tested
both in the lab and in the field. Lab tests show that the sockets made with our
proprietary Carbon Fiber Infill Technology (C-Fit™) passed the Ultimate Static Test Force and 3 million cycle test for a 330 lbs. patient.

3D Printing? Yes – But So Much More

3D printing is the process of creating a 3D object from a 3D digital model by adding material layer by layer.

What are the Benefits?

With 3D printing, material is added only where it is needed in precise layers, resulting in highly accurate protective covers and sockets, with no wasted material. Prosthetics are typically formed manually by carving foam blocks or pouring and grinding plaster molds to create a desired shape. This process requires significant time, resources and personnel. 3D printing eliminates the manual fabrication process and mess, leaving the clinician to do what they do best, prescribe and fit the most effective and comfortable products possible.

How does Extremiti3D’s Work?

It all starts with a 3D model from a scanner or CAD (Computer Aided Design) 3D modeling program. A 3D scanner makes a 3D digital copy of an object. CAD programs can be used to modify scans and convert them to be “printable”.

Extremiti3D applies engineering principles in the design of Prosthetic Sockets. We use the unique benefits of 3D Printing to create carbon fiber reinforced structures within the socket, what we call Carbon Fiber Infill Technology (C-Fit), so that every socket will pass ISO Ultimate Strength testing and 3 million cycles of loading.
